Instructions and Tips
First of all, the script powering the quiz behind this page is used with the kind permission of Serge Raty. I created the image map and made a few slight modifications/additions to the script, but Serve did the bulk of the work. Visit his website at
Thanks again, Serge!
There are two control panels on this page -- one above the map, one above the display area. You can adjust several settings with these control panels depending on how you want to play the game.
First, take a look at the map. If you mouse-over a country, you should see a tool-tip appear with the name of the country. If you're just learning the map, it's probably a good idea to display the details -- this is the default. This way you can click on countries on the map without starting a game and learn about the target countries. If you find that this distracts you, just click on "Hide Display" to make the entire display disappear.
To read up on the rules again, click on "Display Rules."
Updated Fields & Stats
The control panels contain fields that are updated during the game -- these include the number of questions left, the current score and the time you've taken so far.
If you'd like some more extensive statistics -- to include percentage -- click on "Display Stats." Please note, however, that the clock does not stop once you've started a game.
If you're playing a game and you hit a country you just can't find, click the "PASS" button. You'll still get a chance later to try to find the country, but you can first work through the ones you know.
Several elements of the pages can be dragged and dropped. If you are not using the display at all, feel free to hide it and move the two control panels down to the right side of the map. Organize things on your desktop, get comfortable, then start the game.
Finally -- if you feel the map has become too easy for you, try doing it blind.
Click on the bird icon on the right control panel and the map disappears. It's still there, you just can't see it. But you can still mouse-over the countries and play a game.
I've tested the game in IE 7, Firefox and Opera. If you have any issues or suggestions, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
